The Eclipse Souvenir Contest is now complete. We received entries various cities in India, Germany, United Kingdom and United Stated of America. The entries were judged by the promoters Mr. Sheridan Williams, Mr. Eric Brown, Mr. Jay Anderson and a panel of judges from SPACE.

The contest was announced in the Solar Eclipse Workshop by Famous Eclipse Chasers. Cash prizes have been donated by:
Mr. Jay Anderson, ‘Eclipse Meteorologist’, Canada;
Mr. Sheridan Williams, FRAS, England;
Mr. Eric Brown, Eclipse Tour Organiser, U.S.A.
& Mr. Sachin Bhamba of SPACE.

The entrants were advised to keep a few considerations in mind when designing the eclipse souvenir. The main consideration was that the designers must use eclipse as the central theme. Secondly the designers were asked that there must be an Indianess in the design of the souvenir. The final consideration was that the design must be printable on a T-shirt or coffee mug etc. Humorous, witty texts, cartoons were welcome. We received 16 entries from India and abroad, entrants consisting of school students as well as eclipse chasers.

First Prize: Mr Wolfgang Schindler of Germany for his entry “Sunrise Eclipse India”

Second Prize: Mr Bill Kramer of USA for his entry “Corona behind the Ashok Chakra”

Third Prize (1): Mr Indrajeet Sisodiya of Ahmedabad for his entry “Taj Mahal, Eclispe horizon hues”

Third Prize (2): Mr. Adwait Bhagwat of Pune & USA for his entry “Eclipse written over the minarets of Taj Mahal”

Fourth Prize (1): Mr. John McElroy of UK for his entry “India- The land where Sun & Moon embrace”

Fourth Prize (2): Mr Avnish Anand of New Delhi for his entry “OM Eclipse”

Fourth Prize (3): Mr Indrajeet Sisodiya of Ahmedabad for his entry “Planet Earth showing lunar shadow over India”

Honourable mentions go to the following:

1. Mr. Amit Kumar of Mumbai for his entry “This is where our heart lies”

Design an Eclipse Souvenir Contest
The Greatest Eclipse of the 21st Century!

Eclipse Chasers Athenaeum, the eclipse sphere of SPACE is giving you the chance to win handsome cash prizes as well as national fame for designing an eclipse souvenir! This is the moment to show everybody your skills and win a number of wonderful cash prizes!

Your task is to design a special Eclipse Souvenir for this year’s eclipse crossing the breadth of India. Your Eclipse souvenir will be displayed in all banners, websites, communication and national promotions of TSE 2009 by SPACE. Your Eclipse art will be printed
in eclipse souvenirs and distributed all over India with credit due to the creator. Selected entries will be displayed in a gallery on www.eclipsechasers.org

(The Solar Eclipse Workshop was conducted by Eclipse Chasers Athenaeum, the eclipse sphere of SPACE in January at Sir Shankar Lal Concert Hall, Delhi University, in January 2009.)

Considerations:
Use Eclipse as the central theme in designing the souvenir, use shapes like eclipse crescent, numerous eclipses from tree holes on the ground, Baily's Beads, Corona and the Diamond Ring. You could use the Sunset hues present all around on the horizon during an eclipse, or you could also put in a telescope in your logo.
There must be an Indianess in the design of the souvenir, for example you could use Indian monuments like Mahabodhi temple, Sher Shah Suri’s Mausoleum at Sasaram, Lunar shadow falling on Indian subcontinent, the wonder of the world - Taj Mahal, Symbol of Delhi – Qutab Minar or Charminar of Hyderabad. You could also use any humorous or witty texts, make a cartoon etc.

The prizes are as follows:
        First Prize:                                 Rs. 4000 (one)
        Second Prize:                             Rs. 2500 (one)
        Third Prize:                                Rs. 1500 (two)
        Fourth Prize:                              Rs. 1000 (three)
        Consolation prizes:                    Rs. 500 (ten)

Competition Terms:
        1. The competition is open for EVERYONE.... & Entry is FREE.
        2. The eclipse souvenir must be the original work of the submitter.
        3. Entries can be submitted in on an actual T-Shirt, Cap, coffee Mug or any other             exciting product that you can think of. Entries can also be submitted in digital             form in a CD or any other digital media.
        4. The eclipse art must not exploit or offend anyone’s sex, race, religion, morality,             culture, nor be salacious, or be pornographic in nature.
        5. You may enter as many entries as you possibly can.
        6. The deadline for submissions is 30th May 2009. You entry must be postmarked              by this date.
        7. The contest result will be announced on 20th June 2009.

The entries will be judged by a panel of eclipse chasers nominated by SPACE.

What to submit for the contest:
        The format of the submission may be in an actual souvenir form, like T-shirt, cap, mug etc. While submitting an entry you could use any paint medium like acrylic paint, water colours or get a T-Shirt digitally printed. Submitted entry should be capable of being digitised, as for example a physical T-Shirt submission with glitter glue cannot be replicated digitally.
        You can also send in digital entries in a CD or any other media. Entries can also be sent by email, fill up all the details mentioned in the contest form, attach your artwork, your photograph and send it to Ms. Shikha Chanana at this email address: eca@eclipsechasers.org Equal weightage will be given to physical or digital submission.

Terms & Conditions:
1. Any and all copyright, design right, trade mark right and any other intellectual property right of whatever nature in all entries (including all designs, logos and art works submitted) shall belong to and vest in SPACE its associates, franchisees, sister concerns, SPACE group companies, Sponsors, absolutely and all entrants agree to assign such rights to SPACE.
2. By submitting an entry in the competition, the designer acknowledges that he/she is the person who made the eclipse art and is its rightful owner. The prize awarded will be nullified and claimed back by SPACE in case the entry is found to be copied at a later date.
 3. The designer also certifies that the logo does not infringe upon the rights of any third party and that it does not violate any copyright and he/she shall be responsible for any such infringement discovered at a later stage.
4. The judges’ decision on the winner is final and abiding by the submitter.
5. Travel to any prize distribution function if done by the submitter shall not by reimbursed by the organisers of the contest. Any travel required for collection of prize will not be reimbursed.
